Some interesting science facts - by Kanan Ashesh Amin

So what do you think you will hear deep down below the ocean?

Nothing? Pin Drop Silence? Quietest place on the Earth? Let me tell you it isn’t really innocent it looks.

Deep down in the world’s deepest part of ocean, the Mariana Trench, which is 36000 feet below the ocean surface, scientist placed an an underwater microphone(hydrophone) on the sea floor for three weeks.

Scientist heard

A magnitude 5 earthquake off the coast of Guam.

They heard 7 ships passing 7 miles overhead. (that’s the same distance as an airliner at cruising altitude)There is a constant mix of manmade and natural sounds including that of Baleen whales.

Scientist had built a case that could withstand16,000 PSI (=110316117 pascals). It took scientist 6 hours to to lower the hydrophone to an area called Challenger Deep.

(This is what challenger deep looks like. )

To see James Cameron’s dive into Challenger Deep : James Cameron's first footage from the deep sea floor

To hear the recordings : First audio recordings from the Challenger Deep | The deepest part of the oceans (trust me it was really scary).
