History and India always walked hand in hand. And when the question about the biggest screw up in history how can as an INDIAN and the world forget about the murderous orgy created by the British. ( World may hate Hitler but we had more worse demon than him ).
PARTITION OF INDIA.
Well the divide and rule was simple and old master stroke that British played many times over their cruel reign. A country with so many cultural differences it was hardly and genius thought to divide and rule. But what the ultimate nail in the coffin was the partition of India and Pakistan.
True partition was inevitable. The Muslim community fueled by Muslim League and the personal ambitions of one man ( Muhammad Ali Jinnah) created a euphoria among the Muslim. They were made to dream up about disney land.

One cannot blame Jinnah and the Muslims as even after 65 years of independence India is still seeing small Jinnahs. Every other day a community starts protesting for their own land and state. Does we are right blaming Jinnah when we cannot remain united in our country.
Okay coming back to the main topic the barbaric of the British.
The midnight between August 14 and 15, 1947 .. the night that created two great nations well it was not a happy start.
A botched process of partition saw the slaughter of more than a million people; some 15 million were displaced. Untold numbers were maimed, mutilated, dismembered and disfigured. Countless lives were scarred.

Two hundred years of British rule in India ended, as Winston Churchill had feared, in a “shameful flight”; a “premature hurried scuttle” that triggered a most tragic and terrifying carnage.
As the Hollywood celebrated him , well he was the butcher Indians would love to beat up with shoes.
Partition rushed by British in trying to save some grace was handed over to Louis Mountbatten, the last viceroy, who had only arrived in India five months before.
Nisid Hajari reports in “Midnight’s Furies,” a chilling narrative of the butchery: “some British soldiers and journalists who had witnessed the Nazi death camps, claimed partition’s brutalities were worse: pregnant women had their breasts cut off and babies hacked out of their bellies, infants were found literally roasted on spits.”
( and the world hate hitler and our swastik which is rightly Indias ).
Mountbatten arrived in India in February 1947 and was given until June 1948 – not 1947 – to complete his mission. Impatient to get back to Britain and advance his own naval career, he decided to bring forward the date by 10 months, to August 1947 (he eventually did become first sea lord, a position he coveted because it had been denied to his father).
To decide the fate of 400 million Indians and draw lines of division on poorly made maps, Mountbatten brought in Cyril Radcliffe, a barrister who had never set foot in India before then, and would never return afterwards. Despite his protestations, Mountbatten gave him just five weeks to complete the job.
This is what you call the biggest screw up in history. A country a culture older than time divided within seconds by some egoistic foolish British People.
I wonder does British today hang their heads in shame when they come to visit India ??

Many may praise British but never forget science and resources that were looted from India forged the path of their Scientific Marvels.
Also true British with the help of some great Indians brought little cultural revolutions but they are nothing as compared to cruelty done by them.
For a monumental error we have stuck with this for ever …
